MANILA — Department of Tourism (DOT) is being urged by Senator Angara to encourage hotel operators in the Philippines to start providing locally-produced toiletries and slippers to support the local livelihood.
The Senator pointed out the continuous rise of tourists in the Philippines is an opportunity to market and promote our locally made quality products. The Department of Tourish should provide incentives to hotel owners to support this drive/campaign.
According to Sen. Angara “We must continue to find ways to support our local industries and providing hotel guests with essentials such as slippers, soaps, and shampoos made by Filipino entrepreneurs will go a long way in attaining this goal,”
He also added that “When the demand goes up, the manufacturers will produce more, their businesses will grow and more jobs will be created. In the end, all of this will spark economic activity and will even reduce our carbon footprint,”
He even suggested that the hotels must be required to put up their Go Lokal! or One Town One Product (OTOP stores) to promote locally made/produced goods.
Go Lokal! is a market access platform for MSMEs introduced by the Department of Trade and Industry in collaboration with select retail partners for brand management and market acceleration realized through the Go Lokal! Concept Store
Senator Angara mentioned that these concept stores must also be available in our Airports.
Data on the increase of foreigners visiting PH is also proven by the graph available in the Department of Tourism Philippines Website. However, the data show only until the year 2018.
